Achille Brocot, Paris.

Achille Brocot was born in 1817, the eldest son of Louis Gabriel Brocot. The Brocots were a renowned clockmaking family with many inventions accredited to them. The father is best known for his adjustable rise and fall suspension and visible escapement. Achille was awarded a first class medal at the Paris Exhibition of 1855 and in 1856 he was Treasurer to La Société des Horlogers in Paris. In 1858, 1861 and 1865 he took out Patents for an escapement, suspensions and a simplified form of striking. He published a "Calculation of the Wheels by Approximation" in 1862. He died in 1874 and his son also Achille continued the business until circa 1889 when Gustave Gibaudet took over the Brocot family business.
